A CrossFit Primer
Are you new to CrossFit? Do you know someone who is new to CrossFit? Maybe you just saw us on ESPN and you Googled and you ended up here. Well, here’s a list that might help:
.) Want to learn how to CrossFit properly and safely? Go to the official CrossFit affiliate map and find a CrossFit gym near you. Call them up or visit. Many Crossfit gyms have a free session for newcomers. Ask questions. Determine if they’re a good match for you. If not, try another one. (They’re all different.) Don’t stop until you find one that fits you right.
.) Want to CrossFit on your own? Get ready to study, because you most likely have a few things to learn, even if you’ve been working out since the Big Hair 80′s or back when they wore leather helmets in football. Go to CrossFit.com: it’s free and you can learn tons of stuff. For $25 per year, you can also subscribe to the CrossFit Journal. Go to our YouTube CrossFit Channel. Check out the Exercises Demo Playlist.
.) Regardless of the path you take, every day you should check out the CrossFit Main Page for the Workout of the Day (WOD) and the links posted. It’s free.
.) Go to the CrossFit Affiliate Blog and check that out too. (The same person who writes these words runs the A-Blog too. You might find stuff worth reading.)
.) If you’re on Facebook, become fans of CrossFit, CrossFit Affiliate Community, CrossFit Journal, and CrossFit Games. All pages put out some good info daily.
.) If you’re on Twitter, follow CrossFit Lisbeth and check out these lists: CrossFit HQ Peeps and Fifty to Follow (a work still in progress).
.) Dig into the essay archives of CrossFit Lisbeth, where you can find hundreds of short posts on CrossFit topics. Use the scroll button to the right and just keep going! (Some of my personal favorites? “What I Know”,“Unstoppable”, “Scars”, “One Woman’s Manifesto”, “Kill That Voice” and “This Is How We Change Things.”)
.) Relax. Nothing is ever as bad as we think it’s going to be. Anticipation of pain is so much worse than pain itself. You’re going to love this stuff and be amazed at the results. It’s going to seem harder sometimes than what you saw on ESPN, but it’s not. And it really just might be what you’ve been looking for your whole life. Welcome to CrossFit.
