The Real Problem

Sometimes, the bullshit of life is overwhelming.

Mass stupidity seems to have spread like a virus throughout the land, infecting most people and leaving only pockets of resistors, like some post-apocalyptic zombie world. You look around, again and again, but see only the inanity and ridiculousness. You wonder how you’ll ever trudge through this bleak landscape without being affected more. How you’ll ever stay smart, and focused. How you’ll wade through all these problems pressing up against you like needy children or some homeless person begging for spare change.

And then you realize the problem is you. Well, technically the problem is two things — you and your shitty attitude.

Who the fuck are you to think you’re that much better than other people? That you’re that much smarter? That you know that much more? That you are more valuable to this world because of what you can do?

Why the heck is your opinion right? Or the only one that matters?

It’s not. You’ve just been sucked into the black hole of your own ego and you need to get the hell out. Fast. It happens to all of us. But at least now you’ve identified the real problem.

Life sucks sometimes, most definitely. Some people are stupid, or evil, or just plain dicks. But, mostly, the world is full of people like us — working hard and trying to do the right thing. When you puff up your chest and assume you’re better than others, you don’t help anyone, not even yourself. Then, you’re the one being stupid.

So, kick your smugness to the curb. Stomp the ridicule. Abandon the holier-than-thou bullshit attitude. Listen, think, talk. All from the mindset of “What can I learn from this person? How can I help?” Because when you judge people, you lose the opportunity to love them.

If you want the world to be brighter, you have to let more light in.
